A resource pack to support developing pupil participation in schools based on Estyn best practice.

Resource pack:

  • 8 visual posters for best practice in developing pupil participation in practice, inspired by Estyn. 
  • 6 checklists for primary school governors, leadership and management teams, and staff. The checklists can be used by senior managers and staff to monitor the implementation and impact of developing pupil participation in the school. 
  • 8 evidence slips for pupils plus a blank evidence slip for learners to add their own actions.

    The checklists and evidence slips can be used to monitor the implementation and impact of developing pupil participation in the school. They can also be used to form an evidence base of actions and the impact of actions.
    Each checklist is available using the term 'pupil' or 'learner'. 

    The checklists and evidence slips address the questions:
    Do staff attend to pupil views and perspectives?
    Do staff actively promote pupils capacity to think?
    Do staff and pupils engage in dialogue about teaching and learning?
    Do governors attend to pupil views and perspectives?
    Do senior managers attend to pupil views and perspectives?
    Do school systems and procedures take account of pupil perspectives?
    Do pupils put forward their own ideas?

    The evidence slips can be stuck into books, taken home for parents or used to form part of a display. They are available using a red dragon theme, purple dragon theme or detective theme.
